Questions and answers
Plain answers to what people ask most. Still stuck? Our help page has the helpline.
About the passport
What is Digital Skill Passport?
It is one profile that brings you jobs, courses, schemes, business support and agriculture help that fit you. Every step you take is recorded on your passport, so you can see your journey.
Who can make a passport?
Anyone aged 18 or older, anywhere in India. If you are under 18, you can still explore listings, but you cannot make a passport yet.
Is it free?
Yes. Making a passport, exploring and showing interest are free for candidates. No fee is ever charged to job seekers.
Are the listings real?
Yes. We show only real listings from official sources, open data and verified partners. Work that has not started hiring says Hiring has not started, and is never shown as a vacancy.
Account and code
How do I sign up?
Enter your 10-digit mobile number. We send a 6-digit code by SMS. Enter the code, agree to the notice and fill in your profile.
Can I have more than one profile?
No. There is one profile for each phone number. Use your own number, so the helpdesk can reach you.
I did not get the code, or it does not work. What now?
Wait for the timer and tap resend, and check the number you typed. After 5 wrong tries, sign-in is paused for 15 minutes to keep your account safe.
Do I have to fill in everything at once?
No. Each of the five sections saves as you go. Stop at any point and carry on later from where you left off.
Privacy and consent
What data do you keep about me?
What you put in your profile (name, date of birth, gender, place, education, work, skills, what you want and the IDs you choose to add), your consents, and your interests with their updates. ID numbers are encrypted. If you only explore, we use your district and save nothing.
What do you ask my permission for?
Six things, one by one: keeping your passport, matching you with listings, letting the helpdesk call you about an interest, sharing your name and phone with an organisation (asked every time, your choice), sending you updates (your choice) and anonymous usage counts (your choice).
Can I change my mind, or delete my passport?
Yes. In Me, open Privacy and consent to turn permissions off, download your data, or delete your passport. Deleting takes two steps with a code, and your personal data is removed within 30 days.
Will employers see my phone number?
Only if you say yes for that one interest. If you say no, our helpdesk talks to the organisation for you.
Jobs and interest
How do you decide what fits me?
We compare your profile with each listing: where it is, the skills and education it needs and what you want. Each match shows why it fits, and if something is missing, a course that can help.
What happens when I tap I'm interested?
Your interest is recorded and sent to our helpdesk. The app says: We will call you soon. You can follow every update in My interests.
What do the steps after an interest mean?
Interested, then Contacted, Applied, Offer and Joined. After you join, we check in at 30, 60 and 90 days. Each step is added to your passport.
What does Hiring has not started mean?
The work is planned, but hiring is not open yet. You can still show interest, and our helpdesk will call you. It is never shown as a vacancy.
Helpdesk
Who calls me, and when?
A person from our helpdesk replies to every interest. We will call you soon; we do not promise a fixed time, but no interest is left without a reply.
How do I raise a complaint?
In the app, open Me, then Help and complaints, or call our helpline. You can also write to the grievance officer.
Languages
Which languages can I use?
English and Hindi. You do not need to know English.
Can I change the language later?
Yes. Use the language switch at the top of any page, or Language in Me.
IDs
Which IDs will you ask for?
Only IDs that fit the kind of work you do and your state, for example a skills ID for students or a worker card for workers. For each one, you can say you have it or you don't.
Do you ask for my Aadhaar number?
No. We never ask for your Aadhaar number, PAN, voter ID or caste certificate number. For a ration card we ask only its type, never the number.
How are my ID numbers kept safe?
ID numbers are encrypted before they are stored. Screens show only the last 4 digits.
